Employ Kent Thameside workforce initiative |
|
Employ Kent Thameside (EKT) has been established to ensure that local people can access new jobs coming to Kent Thameside. Economic growth is likely to produce new jobs in finance and business, transport and distribution, retail, hospitality, light industrial, and construction. People can register initial interest in EKT services online, or visit the Job Shop at The Bridge Dartford; or The Learning Shop, Bluewater.
EKT provides careers guidance and a training brokerage service for local residents and employers. It runs a number of specific training programmes in association with North West Kent College, and other training providers. These enable people in the area to re-skill or enhance the skills set they already have. EKT achievements to date include:
- The introduction of basic construction skills courses for Under 19s through Skills Gateway
- Taster courses for young people, including finance and waterman skills
- Return to work schemes for unemployed people
- A careers fair and other activities aimed at placing local people into employment
- Training and mentoring for local small and medium sized businesses
- The production of labour market and careers materials to inform residents and organisations of the future job opportunities
