The area has been a trade crossroads and cultural melting pot for over 2000 years. So there’s always been a need to integrate new and existing communities to improve everyone’s quality of life. Regeneration plans will see new community facilities provided and existing ones improved to deliver everything from healthy living promotions to cultural and leisure activities to add to the already vibrant mix.
Everyone will be able to benefit from the opportunities coming here through regeneration. Employ Kent Thameside, a local employment and training initiative, has been set up to help local people find out about training opportunities and new jobs coming to the area. Other initiatives that benefit everyone include:
- The ‘Green Grid’ gives people access to public open space and sport and leisure activities.
- Community Enterprise Hubs, a series of linked community resource centres, have been established to ensure the well-being of everyone living, working and investing here
- The voluntary and community sectors will continue to play a key role through the network of services and facilities they provide.
These activities complement work by Dartford and Gravesham Local Strategic Partnership which brings together both local authorities with a wide range of partner organisations from the statutory voluntary and community sectors.
