The area’s cultural diversity helps to bring a truly international flavour to the performing arts throughout the area. Here festivals such as Chinese New Year and Diwali are celebrated with performances in local arts venues alongside popular entertainment, ballet, music and pantomime.

Kent Thameside benefits from having a range of superb venues for the performing arts:

  • Dartford’s Orchard Centre Theatre features popular entertainment, classical concerts, musicals and pantomime
  • The Mick Jagger Centre is named after the famous former pupil of Dartford Grammar School. It offers performances of jazz, folk, roots, guitar and rock music, and also organises regular Rock and Pop workshops.
  • Woodville Halls Theatre Gravesend regularly hosts popular entertainment, classical concerts, musicals and pantomime. The venue is available for hire including weddings, meetings, parties and theatre shows and is now licensed for Civic Ceremonies
  • The Red Rooster String Project at the Mick Jagger Centre offers primary school students free tuition and musicianship classes in association with Kent Music School
  • Students performances are open to the public at the Miskin Theatre, North West Kent College, Dartford
  • The Cygnet Leisure Centre in Northfleet and Gravesend’s Riverside Family Learning Centre are used by various local community groups

“Culture is the arts elevated to a set of beliefs”

Tom Wolfe
