Britain's first high speed line |
|
From 2009 people in the Kent Thameside area will be able to use the new High Speed One line to significantly reduce their journey times to London for the first time. It will take just 17 minutes to reach St Pancras International from Ebbsfleet International.
That’s when the new Hitachi high speed trains start running services for commuters. Many Kent and South London locations will benefit:
- The 140mph/225kph streamlined trains will wear a distinctive dark blue livery
- A high-speed Hitachi shuttle service to London 2012 will carry sports fans to the Olympic Park, Stadium, Aquatics Centre VeloPark and Olympic Village via Stratford International in just 10 minutes.
- The services will link Ebbsfleet International to the existing international stations at Ashford, Stratford and London St Pancras
- Services will also be provided to Ebbsfleet from Gravesend (just 21 minutes from St Pancras) and further afield, including Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and Ramsgate
- St Pancras International is the £800 million restoration and extension of this unique London landmark and the newest place to meet.
- St Pancras International has become Europe’s destination station and features over 60 top quality shops, boutiques and restaurants opening from November 2007 to Spring 2008, including Europe’s longest champagne bar, a first rate gastro pub, and in the new year – a world class brasserie, and daily farmers’ market.
During London 2012 up to 120,000 spectators each morning will arrive and depart via Javelin shuttle trains through Stratford International station. Around 60 per cent of all spectators travelling to the London 2012 Games are expected to travel by train
