Dartford Borough Council is spearheading plans to regenerate Dartford Town Centre over the next 20 years to create a more vibrant, attractive and welcoming centre for residents and visitors. £20 million has been provided by government.
Lowfield Street was proposed in a recent consultation on Dartford Town Centre Action Area Plan, for mixed use redevelopment closely integrated with the town centre.
Progress so far has seen Central Park double in size. The Heritage Lottery Fund has also provided funding to improve the townscape.
The Townscape Heritage Initiative will provide grants to support the repair of buildings, to reinstate historic features and to bring about new uses for currently vacant floorspace.
Master-planning of redundant industrial land north of the railway line, known as the Northern Gateway, has been led by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). This has identified the potential to create a northern extension to the town centre, with;
- Up to 630 new homes
- Approximately 35,000 square metres of employment space
- New community facilities and improvements to the environment in and around Dartford Creek.
