Green Grid integrates existing open space, parkland and heath with green space that is being created as part of new developments across the Thames Gateway

Many new and existing sites feature cycleways and paths on the doorstep making it easy for people to enjoy fresh air and exercise. Much existing open space has been upgraded with new facilities and signage. Amongst the ‘Green Grid’ recreational facilities are:

  • Jeskyns community park, featuring 3,000 new trees, wildflower meadows, grassland , a children’s adventure play area, all connected by paths and cycle tracks
  • The tow path of the Thames and Medway canal between Gravesend and Higham has been converted into National Cycle Route One, providing access to the Thames Estuary marshes
  • Shorne woods country park complete with new visitor centre, sensory Garden and a ‘trim trail’ for fitness enthusiasts
  • Riverside Leisure Area, provides stunning views across the Thames and a long-established café serves refreshments
  • Cobham Park, home to the Darnley Mausoleum provides access to the Kent Downs AONB
  • Central Park in Dartford is a real gem located right at the heart of the town
  • Dartford Heath, where the original Dartford Warbler was first spotted by Dr John Latham in 1773
