The climate is changing but as planet warming has become recognised, business attitudes towards environmental sustainability have also shifted. It now makes good economic sense for everyone to re-appraise their impact on the environment and their use of finite natural resources, such as carbon based energy.
At Kent Thameside we take our responsibility to future generations very seriously. That’s why we’ve introduced Fastrack bus rapid transit. It encourages people to leave their car at home and helps cut emissions and improve air quality. We’ve taken other action too:
- A Strategic Flood Risk Assessment has been completed
- A Water Cycle Strategy is being undertaken
- A Sustainable Energy Feasibility Study is planned
- New developments are making use of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems
- New homes are being built to conform to the standards of the Code for Sustainable homes for water and energy efficiency, and waste management
- We are creating a Green Grid to integrate existing public open space with parks and recreation facilities in new developments
- Businesses are encouraged to act responsibly in their use of energy and disposal of waste
- Ensuring we exploit any opportunities for habitat creation and biodiversity enhancement
