Lord Sandy Bruce-Lockhart
Sustainability is central to our plans. We’re developing previously used land for 25,000 new homes by 2026 and 50,000 new jobs in mixed use development, planned closer to where people live.

Principles built into our vision have been developed through our Regeneration Framework. We’re taking action to capitalise on our once in a lifetime opportunity to develop a more sustainable future:
  • Development will focus along Fastrack bus rapid transit routes, with higher densities close to stops, helping to reduce emissions and improve air quality
  • We insist on new development incorporating energy efficiency; greater use of renewable resources; sustainable urban drainage and flood risk management.
  • We aspire to move to zero carbon development through the adoption of higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Buildings,
  • Under the Thames Gateway Parklands initiative we are transforming our environment with a ‘Green Grid’ of parks, open space and woodland linked with footpaths and cycleways.
  • Sites of Special Scientific Interest, wetlands and nature reserves are sensitively managed and protected.
  • We will conserve and enhance our rich built heritage, promote its beneficial reuse, and promote high quality designed new buildings and spaces that will also stand the test of time.
