The southern end of Ebbsfleet Valley is currently home to three electricity sub-stations. These are in the process of being decommissioned. National Grid is preparing to move forward with its ambitious vision for mixed-use development on the 90-acre (36 hectare) site which it has called Northfleet West.
A revised masterplan for the site was submitted to Dartford Borough Council in June 2007, comprising:
- Up to 1500 new homes, together with 20,000 square metres of commercial, retail, hotel and leisure uses
- A town square to the north of the site, close to the planned Fastrack stop
- 4,000 square metres of community, health, educational and cultural facilities, sensitively incorporated into the site
- A 5 acre (2 hectare) urban park at the heart of the development, to provide an attractive space for sport, play and relaxation.
The scheme is currently being negotiated with Dartford Borough Council with a view to being determined in early 2008. Once permission is granted the site can be brought forward for early development.
