Steeped in riverside heritage, Gravesend boasts a vibrant, multi-cultural town centre which will be further improved over coming years through a number of exciting new projects.
Significant new residential schemes, providing 152 new homes, are largely complete at Parrock Street/Eden Place. New health care services have also recently been added to the town centre with the opening of the £25mn Gravesham Community Hospital health and social care facility.
Further plans to improve the town centre include:
- A development agreement with Edinburgh House, which will see substantial redevelopment and enhancement of the Heritage Quarter. This will provide significant new retail floorspace, 500 new homes, restaurants, offices, and a hotel as well as new community facilities and public realm enhancements.
- The Transport Quarter, which covers the area around Gravesend railway station. Proposals to improve facilities at the station and provide a new town centre interchange with Fastrack services are being developed. This will aim to maximise the investment opportunities for commercial and residential developments when High Speed 1 domestic services to London St. Pancras are introduced to Gravesend Station in 2009.
